- Hanadi says......,
I had a very bad time after 9/11. I live in ******, so on 9/11 I was in
another world - I was very upset over what's happened and I was so worried
about my friends that worked in the WTC and the Pentagon. Thank God,
everyone that I know is fine, God was watching over them. I did lose a very
good friend of mine, not in that way though. Her feelings towards me changed
after 9/11, she said many horrible things to me. I have been friends with
her for 4 years, we sat in the same office together for 3 years and I was
supposed to be in her wedding this coming June and all of a sudden her
feelings changed towards me because I am an Arab. Her friends sent me nasty
emails, SHE sent me a nasty email on 9/11 right after the second plane hit
the WTC that said "so what do you say for your people now"? No one
knew who did this yet and I was too upset looking for my friends and then I
get her email. I thought to myself - was that the only thing she can think
of to say to me right now? That was the turning point of our relationship -
I was very hurt.
I am so in this fight...all the way! The fight to educate our fellow
Americans...as you say. I want to do so much to help the Arab-Americans.
That's why I took this internship at AAI. I decided to leave my job at a
computer consulting firm that I have been working at for 6 years and I had
to do a lot to convince my parents to allow me to move to DC to take this
internship. I needed to learn more about my people and the issues that
effect the Arab-American community and AAI was the place to be. It took a
lot for me to get here, but it's all worth it!!
